Weak consumer demand and structural shifts desecrate Debenhams’ core business.

Revenues down like-for-like by 2.3% and gross margins down 140bps

The conjunction of two separate elements, weaker consumer demand, and a structural shift to online shopping, has desecrated Debenhams’ core business. Impairments, onerous lease charges and asset write-offs together impact profit by £500m. A pre-exceptional profit of £33m, down 65%, is at least positive but provides a fairly pitiful return on the remaining fixed assets of £1.2bn.

GB Group (GBG); reports organic revenue growth of 11% for 1H18

GB Group reported that trading performance for the six months ended 30 September 2018 is in line with expectations. The company reported underlying organic revenue growth of 11%, after adjusting for a material non-recurring revenue item reported last year.
